About
Hi, I'm Rod — a San Diego–based software engineer currently shifting focus from frontend development into AI engineering: building real applications on top of large language models rather than training models from scratch.
Most recently I spent time at ServiceNow, where I built frontend components for a new internal AI platform using the Lit framework, and led the development of multi-agent AI workflows — including a system that automated defect triage and one that converted 270 manual test cases to automated execution using the Claude API.
That work is what pulled me toward AI engineering full-time. I'm currently going deep on retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, and agentic tooling, working through an IBM AI Engineer certification, and building projects aimed at practical, unglamorous B2B use cases — the kind of internal tooling that's boring on the surface but genuinely valuable underneath.
Experience
- Built new frontend components for ServiceNow's AI platform using the Lit framework, including menus and a chat interface, working closely with designers and integrating with backend APIs.
- Designed and built a multi-agent AI workflow to automate defect triage and fixes — pulling defect data from internal tools, searching the codebase, generating fix suggestions, implementing them, and writing unit, functional, and integration tests.
- Led the automated conversion of 270 manual test cases to automated execution in two months using the Claude API and a custom multi-agent workflow, combining Playwright MCP, self-healing test agents, and CI integration with Jenkins.
- Performed deployments, upgrade testing, and support for 45+ applications across the engineering organization, including Jira, Confluence, GitLab, GitHub, Browserstack, Sendgrid, and Tableau.
- Supported 14 product QA teams, helping organize and maintain their testing infrastructure, and implemented and maintained integrations across applications for cross-functional teams spanning Development, QA, PM, and Operations.
- Led the Sendgrid email migration, moving user accounts across multiple email clients under a unified system with zero email or service loss for any supported team.
- Set up and documented a shared JetBrains license server used across engineering teams, and drove vendor relationships and performance/reporting improvements using APIs and SQL.
- Maintained MySQL databases for a 300-person engineering organization, including backup snapshots and data integrity testing.
- Updated and maintained Python scripts across Linux test environments, and reduced test server load by optimizing problematic queries, improving response time by 8%.
- Performed KVM hypervisor redeployments and guest VM recovery, and deployed Linux test servers as part of the test automation and lab infrastructure team.
